What effect might generalizing have in e-Learning contexts?

As explained in the definition of learning, learning is different things to different people. The problem with generalization is that it groups everyone into the same category. All people learn in different ways. In a e-learning context it assumes that all learners have the same prior knowledge in regards to the use of technology, which within the adult world of learning is not the case.
